Overview

The most immersive way to experience the Great Migration. You fly directly into the Serengeti, float above the plains at sunrise in a hot-air balloon (included), and stay in intimate luxury tented camps positioned where the herds are, whether that is the calving grounds in the south, the western corridor or the Mara River in the north. Private charter flights link the camps, so you spend your time on safari rather than on the road. A night on the Ngorongoro rim and a night in Tarangire round off the journey.

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1 Fly from Arusha to the Serengeti

   Meet your guide at Arusha Airport for the scenic flight to Seronera. Be welcomed with a cool drink, then enjoy an afternoon game drive on the way to your luxury camp.

2. Day2 Hot-air balloon and full day in the Serengeti

   Rise before dawn for a hot-air balloon flight over the plains, followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush. Spend the rest of the day on a private game drive.

3. Day3 Charter flight to the migration

   Take a morning game drive, then fly by charter to the airstrip nearest the herds: the northern Serengeti (July to October), the western corridor (May and June), or the southern plains (December to March).

4. Day4 A full day with the herds

   Spend a private day with the migration. In the north, wait for river crossings on the Mara; in the south, watch calving and the predators that follow; in the west, follow the Grumeti.

5. Day5 A second day with the herds

   Choose a full-day excursion with a picnic lunch, or a morning drive followed by a relaxed afternoon at camp. Sundowners on the plains.

6. Day6 Fly to Lake Manyara, then to the Ngorongoro rim

   Fly to the Lake Manyara airstrip, then drive to the Ngorongoro rim (about an hour). Arrive in time to watch the sun set over the caldera from your lodge.

7. Day7 Ngorongoro Crater to Tarangire

   Descend into the crater at first light for a private game drive with breakfast on the crater floor. In the afternoon, drive to Tarangire for an evening game drive among the baobabs.

8. Day8 Tarangire and return to Arusha

   Take a final morning game drive among the elephants before driving to Arusha (about two hours) for your onward travel.
