How Much Does a Tanzania Safari Cost?

What affects the price of a Tanzania safari, what is included, and how mid-range, upper mid-range and luxury trips compare.

A Tanzania safari is an investment, and prices vary widely. The good news is that a well-planned private safari can suit many budgets. Here is what drives the cost.

What affects the price

  • Park and conservation fees: these are a large part of the cost, they are charged per person per day, and they change from year to year. The Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater are the most expensive.
  • Accommodation level: the biggest difference between a mid-range and a luxury safari is where you sleep and eat.
  • Season: July to October and the Christmas period are high season, with the highest prices. April, May and November are generally cheaper.
  • Group size: the vehicle and guide are shared between guests, so couples and solo travellers pay more per person than families or groups of four.
  • Flights: scheduled flights between parks save time but add to the cost.

Mid-range safaris

Comfortable lodges and tented camps with private bathrooms and good food, a private 4x4 and an expert guide. This is the sweet spot for most travellers. Our mid-range safaris start from about $980 per person for four days.

Upper mid-range safaris

Larger rooms, pools, better views and more time in each park. Some include a scenic flight to the Serengeti. Prices usually start from around $2,800 per person for a week on the northern circuit.

Luxury safaris

Exclusive tented camps and lodges in the best locations, scheduled flights, a balloon flight and selected drinks included, with a private guide and vehicle. Our luxury itineraries start from about $4,590 per person for six days.
